Just bought this game today (found it for $2.99 in a Dual-Pack with Soulbringer), i had heard many mixed opinions about it, but decided to go ahead and get it...it's not like $3 would kill me.

I started played a little bit earlier, mostly to see if it would run on my laptop and it runs just fine...might try the widescreen mod later on, but for the time being, works fine like a charm :D

Anyways, to mess around i created a character with 12 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 9 Cha, 12 Int and 12 Wis (the Cha, Int and Wis numbers might be a little off, but only by a point or two) and rolled off to an amusing start (seriously, that flying skull was dunked into funny syrup or something :p ). Should i stick to that setup? if not, why?

Thanks!
You didn't take the optimal powergaming stats but it's ok since you can raise them as you level up or with spells or equipment.

I recommend pumping up wis to at least 18-19 at the next level ups since it's the dialogue stat, grants bonus XP and even a luck bonus which is useful for combat.

If you feel vulnerable raise con so you get more HP and regenerate faster.

I wouldn't bother pumping up strength further, you have enough carrying capacity and you'll have to raise it a lot for combat bonuses. There are also spells you can use to raise it temporarily.

Your dex is high enough to succeed in the dex checks (like snapping necks in the beginning), eventually you could raise it by one for 1 extra AC but raising con helps far more in combat. Thieves don't need more than you have since they gain lots of skill points as they level up anyway.

The importance of int and cha fades compared to the importance of wis. There are usable items which can raise int temporarily for mages who get to the spell memorizing limit.
I wouldn't bother raising cha, you'll have to invest too many points to get too few bonuses and shop discount.

If you're going to restart anyway I recommend starting with 14+ con (for surviving) and 18 wis (for dialogue, memories and other bonuses), the rest is optional.

I would recommend restart as well especially to get all the mods working (better getting them from the start, I think widescreen will mess up saves).
to be honest I think dexterity is pretty useless (I noticed its your top stat), I did play a mage though, but still, if you want to survive easier then constitution is the primary stat, but for getting all the dialogue options, memories and etc I'd advise you to get high wisdom
If you want the most dialogue out of the game from the off, I'd advice to bump wisdom up to 18 from the get go. That the main thing, and you can do what you want with the rest. That said, this isn't really a fighting game, so you'll quite fine with no points into strenght or dexterity. Constitution is most rewarding when it comes to fights as it makes you regenerate health faster, espeically when it's really high (18+). If you want to be a mage, intelligence is obviously important too because you can have more spells in the spell book.

As many have already said or indicated, wisdom is the most important attribute in this game, by far.
If it's not broken, don't fix it. No need to install the widescreen mod if it works fine without. Even if everything looks a little broader than supposed now it's still closer to the original gaming experience than with the mod.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll still try the widescreen mod just for the sake of comparison to see how i like it best. I already tried it with BG1 and liked it, so it's worth trying it with Planescape too, for me at least.
