http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity
Obsidian Entertainment and our legendary game designers Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer are excited to bring you a new role-playing game for the PC. Project Eternity (working title) pays homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.

Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPGs that we enjoyed making - and playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those classic games and we want to bring those games back… and that’s why we’re here - we need your help to make it a reality!
Loving it! Seems to be doing really well and it's first KickStarter I support wholeheartedly :)
Pity they're not using the D&D license though.
Looks pretty good to me.

Personally, I'm glad they aren't using a DnD license. I'm absolutely sick of video games based on that franchise, mostly because only a few of them were any good and Wizards desire to have more games made is so strong they made their actual game as shallow and limited as a computer RP system. I have no respect for a company that's willing to destroy their own IP just for a buck.

Besides... I'd like to see some new ideas for a change, and not the homogonized fantasy that seems to be prevalent these days.
Well what with it being an homage to these homogenized fantasy games, I don't think you'll see much that you're looking for. As for me, I don't care what the setting is, I just want people to 1) use it well, and 2) actually call it what it is. Dragon Age, for instance, just had your classic fantasy standard but was marketed as "dark." Sure there were bits and parts, but that could be said just as easily of a lot of Final Fantasy games (9 and 6 stick out in my mind - both for having dark moments, and otherwise having rather cheery settings and graphics).

To the first part I would like to say, "Hey, I can dream, right?"

to the second part, Can you name a few dark fantasy games that deserve the actual name? I'm asking for information, I love dark fantasy!
Eh, to be honest it's not really my thing. ^^' Planescape comes to mind, but even that is probably borderline.
