So I am in the area right at the beginning where you first go underground. Morte died fighting something. I ran away and zoned and when I came back he was gone. I cannot find his body to revive him. Any suggestions?

you can revive him simply clicking his portrait I believe. .. Or not? I'm not sure!
clicking on the body doesnt really revive him as he is gone. no body at all. Also, if i go into his inventory the game just crashes.
Wait... MORTE HAS A BODY ?

I don't have much experience with PS:T, but with other IE games objects left on the ground might disappear when you leave the current zone. That is why if you want to unload items from your inventory but keep them accessible, it is advised to store them in a container. Maybe Morte's 'body' suffered from this ?
Companion NPCs don't leaves any body after their death. Simply right-click on The Nameless One, choose skills, choose Ressurection (you will know, that you are on right track, when mouse change), left-click on dead companion portrait to revive him. Do not forget that revived NPCs got only ONE Hit Point (1 HP).

Or maybe you reffer to missing items left on the floor? In that case you can start weeping, because they are gone forever. Always store items in container and accessible, as forementioned above.

I tried to give him one I found in the mortuary, but it didn't work out nearly as well as i'd hoped... :p

TC, if you lost something on the floor, the Infinity Engine eats it when you zone, since it "re-creates" the zone map when you go back in. Sorry. :(
