I've never played Planescape and think I have a bug around memorizing spells (and not that I just don't know how). When I open the mage's spellbook, I can see how I have my character's original memorized spells on the left, and my copied spells on the right. But when I click on a newly copied spell, there is no options box to specify that I want to memorize it, and the icon doesn't highlight. Nothing happens at all. I can rememorize Dak'kon's preloaded spells, but not any new ones I've acquired during play.

Attached screenshot shows what it looks like before resting, and immediately after clicking on Armor.

Is there a bug fix that I need to load? I just downloaded the game last week.

Ciao

Oh yeah, PC running Windows 10

How many Level 1 spells can Dak'kon currently memorize? I'm going to say it's not 16.

You're likely right, but I don't know where to look for that information. He's a level 3 mage. I guess I'll go burn a spell and then see if I can memorize a different one. Thanks

[I'm Back ] Hey, I didn't know how to use the game. (Naturally!)

That worked. I guess I can only memorize 3 level one spells for now.

Thanks much!

I thought there was some indicator, but I don't have this installed at the moment. Page 32 of the manual has a chart plus any bonus spells your current INT gives you.
In 2nd edition AD&D, you don't get bonus spells as a mage.

PS:T (and other Infinity Engine games) conveniently remembers spells you cast. That way you don't have to make a new selection every time you rest. To change the selection, simply click on the spell icons on the left page of your spell book to unlearn them. Then you'll have free slots again to memorize different spells.

^^ This.

Also in your screenshot you currently have three spells memorized, two of which are useable while one has either been cast already or has been added to the "memory" after your rest. And three appears to be the maximum number of spells that character can memorize at this time.

If you left-click the greyed-out spell (third from the left on the left-hand side), it will disappear and you'll be able to use that slot for a spell of your choice (of that level).

You can also remove one of the other two spells, but you'll likely get a warning that you're removing an existing memorized spell.

You should also notice that, on removing one of the spells on the left-hand side, you should have an "empty" slot available - it should look different to the other slots.

Hope this makes some sense.
the main problem for new players is that the "usuable" and "nonusuable" spell blocks look very similar and can confuse new players until they realize the slight difference. They really should have left out the non-usuable blocks all together would have made the menu look cleaner and easier, but oh well.

Completely agree with this - the difference is so slight I had the same issue when I first started.
