I have installed the game on windows 7 x64 as per the GOG guide with all recommended mods and options.

The game runs flawlessly so far except for only a little annoying thing: (lack of vsync)/tearing.

I'm using a nvidia GTX260 and I've already tried to force vsync from nvidia control panel and nvidia inspector to no avail.

Thanks.

The problem probably results from using the ddraw fix.
This patch doesn't take advantage of any hardware-supported features, hence no vsync.

You could try replacing the used Wine3D DLLs with their newest versions:

- make a backup of \Planescape Torment\ddrawfix\wined3d
- get a newer version: http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/ (download "Latest Version (Installer)")
- open wined3d.exe with 7zip
- extract libwine.dll, wined3d.dll, and ddraw.dll from $SYSDIR
- overwrite the files in \Planescape Torment\ddrawfix\wined3d with the three files you've extracted

Maybe it's running better now (or not at all ;-)

Problem is latest version hadn't got a ddraw.dll

But I'm trying with the latest version that got it.

EDIT: Seems like I'm not using ddraw dlls in my install. Had to put them on my game root dir to be hooked on launch. They only made appear a mouse trail problem, but tearing persists :(.

Thanks, though.

I've played a bit with in game software/hardware rendering settings with same result, tearing :\
try http://www.shsforums.net/topic/56441-proof-of-concept-alpha-blended-fog-of-war-pst/
Thanks, that did remove the tearing, but now the mouse pointer leaves a trail whenever it is over the UI.

It also makes PST to move all the window positions of other programs because I'm not using the desktop resolution. This annoying behaviour was removed in almost all GOG released games. May have something to do with some deprecated fullscreen call?
Aqrit,

just for the info, I realized that when I was testing the ddraw.dll of wineD3D I hadn't the problem of windows relocation on exiting the game, so you might look at the code of wineD3D to see what is the fullscreen call (or whatever it is needed to be done to get fullscreen without 'messing' the desktop) and recompile the dll to see if that do the trick?

As for the mouse trailing problem, I didn't test it yet, but the gog installer activates some compatibility flags through the microsoft compatibility toolkit, so deactivating some of them might get rid of the mouse pointer trailing problem.

Thanks for the job on this dll, it seems like it gets us closer to a perfect modern PS:T experience.

uninstall the pst-ddrawfix and/or the ie-ddrawfix to get rid of the mouse cursor trail.

I have no idea how to go fullscreen without calling ChangeDisplaySettings() so this might be worth looking into.

I'll try to uninstall those mods as soon as I'm done with exams, but I followed the GOG mod guide to the letter (http://www.gog.com/news/mod_spotlight_planescape_torment_mods_guide), and didn't explicitely install any of those mods. How do I know which of both I have installed? Maybe it is a fix part of the 'Ultimate WeiDU Fixpack' or 'Qwinn's PS:T Tweak Pack'?

If that works and you manage to get fullscreen working in the same way wine does, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you very much

The GOG installer automatically installs the IE DDraw Fix.

Thanks, I'll uninstall it as soon as possible. Hope aqrit can fix the fullscreen behaviour and PS:T will be perfect :)

I've read that. However, it does not seem to be the case, at least with Win8.1x64. Without also applying the Ddraw fix, the game was unplayable for me. My thought is that Ddraw.fix may not be necessary with the vanilla Gog version, but that one or other of the mods (and I recommend them all) creates a need (changes, overwrites something) to run the Ddraw.fix, anyway--at least with 8.1x64. Game runs great for me with the Ddraw fix, however. Tearing? What's a little tearing among friends? Seriously, if there's tearing I don't notice it...

note: I use the "force Ddraw emulation" setting in Ddraw.fix.
