Greetings, fellow gogers.

I have a question concerning the High Res mod. I understood that installing this mod makes old savegames unusable. But what about the compatibility of savegames between machines that both have the High Res mod installed, but with different resolutions ?

Actually, I have a 1024*600 netbook, and a 1680*1050 desktop computer, and would like to synchronize my savegames between both machines using Dropbox. I installed exactly the same mods in the same order on both machines, the only difference being the resolution selected during the installation of the High Res mod (and the font scaling when installing Ghostdog's UI). I've made some tests, and apart from a bug with custom map markers (which appear far off the point I've put them...), everything seems fine. But I would like to make sure there's no hidden incompatibility before I progress further into the game.

Thanks for your help

I don't think that would work, since the wide-screen/hi-res mod doesn't let you change the resolution, you have to configure it on install. So you would take saves that are "programmed" for 1280x800 and try to run them in 1366x768... and they wouldn't load, becuase they are the wrong resolution for the installed game.

Sorry, it will not work.
Saves positively not be working between vanilla PST and PST with different resolutions. I've... Seen it. Problems with small locations here. Some kind of coordinates problem.
Sorry
Thanks for your answers, but I probably wasn't clear enough. I'm not trying to load a vanilla PST savegame into a High-Res modded PST. I'm trying to swap savegames between two High-Res modded PST, but with different resolutions. The savegames load and play fine, I've tested it. Apart from the map markers problem, which is not a gamebreaker, everything seem to work fine. I would just like to make sure that there isn't any invisible problem that might corrupt my saves in the long term.
I doubt anyone can tell you for sure, but if it's only the resolution that's changed between the two machines and all other mods are the same, you could well be okay.
Spell effects might get a little weird as well, but if it works, it will probably keep working.
Thanks for the quick answers. I'll give it a try then.

Let us know how it goes, if you would.

Well, no problem so far. I started a game on computer A (with the lower resolution), saved it, and continued on computer B (with the higher resolution). I've played about 2h with several quick saves, normal saves and loading. Apart from the map markers, I didn't spot any problem. I have yet to try re-loading the game on computer A though, but so far A->B seems to work fine.
Changing resolutions is destructive to your save games.

Well, seeing your avatar, I guess you know what you're talking about :-)

I'll search for a single resolution that is playable on both machines and start a new game, then. Thanks for the advance warning, I prefer to lose 2 hours of gameplay rather than 40...

Changing resolution by remodding the game certainly is. Has anyone tested if saves can be moved from one resolution to another?
Don't think I deserved the 'solved' awards there, but what I meant was since you'd already switched the saved games and had no ill effects other than some map markers out of place, then it seemed you were going to be good to go. Especially where you said you'd been saving and loading with no ill effects.

Probably best to restart, but it would've been interesting to see if you could have finished without any problems.

Unfortunately, the forum won't let me change the 'solved' award. After redesigning the whole site, I think the forum could use the same treatment :-)

Since this is my first playthrough, I'd rather play it safe and use 1024*600 on both machines (if my desktop graphics card accepts to upscale this, which I'm currently trying to do). But I agree : it would be interesting to know if the game is completable.
