I've been playing this game for a week or two now and I just entered the Starved Dog's Barking Lair. I saved the game and came back to it today only to have the game start crashing on me after loading the save. Sometimes it will let me play for about a minute, but then crashes again. I tried using a different save with the same effect as well as starting a new game. I've searched the internet a bit uninstalled and re-installed the game, added and removed a variety of mods, nothing seems to have had an effect. I also ran through the general advice trying compatibility modes, reinstalling directX runtime, and running as administrator. Any advice? I'm really enjoying the game and would love to see it through.

salubri: ...Any advice?...
Hard to say what's causing this. After all you've already tried, I'd also send a support ticket.

You said you also tried to re-install the DirectX runtime.
Make sure you installed both, the old redistributable first (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109) and then run the web installer afterwards (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35).
Reboot your system in between.
Also try updating your graphic card's drivers.
thanks DeMignon, I submitted that ticket, I hadn't thought of that oddly enough. I ran the web installer, only for it to tell me I didn't need it and I updated my graphics card. Still no luck but it's nice to have covered all the bases I suppose.
Does the game crash when you start a new game or only when you save a fresh game and try to load it?

Speaking of general things to check, have you already checked if DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is set to default settings?
To do this, follow these steps:
1) Open Menu Start
2) Right click 'Computer' and click 'Properties'
3) Click 'Advanced system settings'
4) Open tab 'Advanced' and click 'Settings' in 'Performance' section
5) Open tab 'Data Execution Prevention'
6) Change DEP setting to the first option (Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only)
7) Confirm with OK.
