ERIKGWK: Am i really not allowed to complete the game w/ helping Pharod?

I need to open the Painted Door to proceed but i need Annah help, right?

Montresor_SP: You can't proceed beyond the painted door until after you helped Pharod find an item he wants.

gnarbrag: Pharod wants the bronze sphere because one of your previous incarnations tasked him with finding it. The sphere belongs to you but your present incarnation doesn't know it. Pharod wants the sphere for himself because he doesn't understand what it is and neither will you until shortly before your reach the end of the game.

I don't think finding the sphere is necessary but it won't hurt to have it with you when you reach the end of the game.
