Whenever I play the game there's bunch of garbled graphical mess that breaks all buttons and ruins the graphics.

I have Radeon HD 4870 X 2

I went there...the .zip file he provides says it's corrupt.

I'm not sure whether bumping this post does anything meaningful, but I wanted to chime in and say that I, too, had this problem, and the solution referred to here worked brilliantly. I'm nearly tempted to suggest it ought to be part of the standard GoG distribution .... but, at least, for those of you with this problem: Know that there is help to be found. :-)
