When i click on the action wheel to bring it up and then left click the icon, how do i perform the action that i selected? Do I left click the object or right click off the wheel to unpause the game AND then left-click the object. All advice welcome.

I believe it's left click to select a target, then right click to unpause the game. This way you can issue commands for all your party members before unpausing, if you desire.
