Had to google just to find out how to save the game as it does not say in the manual, why did i not thinkg of that you had to be in friendly port, push *space* and click on furniture (sight). My first question goes directly to this so is there a Save mod out there so i can save when i want?.

It would be ok if it was not for the Sword fighting randomness, i really tried to read the manual that clearly indicate different attacks, Blocks and so on, but all i see in the fight are two fighters that looks more like feather dusting than sword fighting, i can not tell the different between anything, the animation looks the same, ended up spamming the attack buttons wich is a 50/50 win situation (dificult setting) and that is not good enough when you cant save before fights, im loosing the game constantly.

Does anyone have a clue how this Sword fight works (remember it as better when i played this game on Amiga)?, i find using keybord is better than mouse in the fight...
You could get a DOSBox mod which supports save states.

For fencing use a cutlass, it does more damage per hit than the other weapons. Get close to the enemy as quickly as possible and keep on attacking, simply holding an attack button (and shift for harder hits) should be enough.

Try magicbox.imejl.sk or www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=53116 .

A non- pirates gold 3.5 floppy. I remember using a joystick card, don't know what it was called, maybe called a game card. (The brand was CH) I think the joysticks had 8 directions and 1 button on the MSDOS version/Tandy (you had to center it), it was a booter disk. B pirates gold. Was trying to play the cd version and sword fight with joysticks now it didn't work right(this year 2024) . Back in those other days,(later with the Gold version 1990's or early 2000s) was able to play it on a Mac powerpc quadra that others had, it had fmv and sound for the character's on a cd or 2. Can't remember how it played. (maybe with their 1 button mouse and not well/as fun).

A non- pirates gold 3.5 floppy. I think I pushed upper diagonal with the joystick, then swung the sword with button, ega/cga graphics,,, had one like the mach ii analogue joystick, might still have it.

You have to format a disk lol. , page 13/83 covers swordplay, high, medium, or low while pushing a button on joystick. attack, parrying, and retreat in regular pirates... Pirates! - manual.pdf they may have left out the Captain's Broadsheet Adendum, might want to format a disk...

To get a floppy disk image, you could just format a freedos 1.2 floppy image. Don't format the C drive.
Edit: for the older Pirates on gog, this may already be setup, I suggest picking 2 floppy drives.

For the regular pirates, not gold. Go into town and check information. I could pick 1-4 slots for game saves.

A real reason to loose at the first sword fight is when you don't answer the copy protection correctly. That can still add to the fun.
