Probably a stupid question, but when I buy games on steam they automatically update. Does that happen on Gog or will I be stuck with this version?

They post patches for download, in the same way you got the game. They update the game download so new buyers or redownloaders don't need to apply the patch.

A GOG client is in public alpha testing, and when released it'll include auto-updating; but currently only testers have it.
