Just got Def Ed. Wondering: is WM an expansion, in the sense that I can play through the game first and then play WM, or should I just go ahead and install it before I even start the game? Is WM its own thing or is it simply inserted into the base game?

You can play White March at any point you wish after the trigger points have been passed. These are:
You must reach act 2
You must own Caed Nua
You must have visited Defiance Bay
You must complete 'Never Far from the Queen' quest -- After leaving the temple of Woedica you will receive a message from the Steward of Caed Nua

If you start the game from a previous save that has progressed further you should receive this information immediately. If you don't receive the message straight away, complete any main quest.
