Pretty sure hirelings get paid every five days.

Taxes are collected based on turns/quests completed. The devs don't want players to be able to continually generate money by resting for days/weeks at a time. That's fine, but hireling pay should be based on the same schedule.

But that alone won't be enough to make the stronghold interesting or compelling. Some good ideas for improvement can be found in threads on the Obsidian forum:

Okas, will be careful in next gameplay, anyway if I understand the expansion will take more emphasis in the stronghold.
