Ok, where to start ...

This current play of PoE was working GREAT up until yesterday.

I discovered the "fast movement" button which was a godsend as I have a full stealth party.

Now, the game doesn't run smoothly anymore - right at the intro screen the graphics stutter a bit, loading screens are much longer, and "fast movement" no longer works. It's almost unplayable now, which sucks because I just started WM (the problem started right before I went there though, in the scripted Cead Nua scene with the rioters).

This may not be a game specific problem though as I tried D:OS and it's the same with that now too.

It's obviously a graphics software issue, the only thing that changed on my comp was my Avast popping up an old version of dx5 (I think that's what it was) and saying to delete it, which I did. That's when this started.

I did a dx diagnostic and I have dx11 and it says there are no problems with it. But I know that when the installation of a GOG game is almost complete it sometimes has you install something else as well. For instance I just installed Lords of Xulima and I had to install something for that.

So I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows if maybe dx5 was a requirement that installed towards the end of PoE and by removing it I caused this?

Also, If I'm unable to fix this issue with all the google searching and laptop cleanup I'm doing, would I be able to reinstall the whole game, plus WM 1 and 2, and have my saves still work?

I can't see myself starting all over from the beginning right now.

Definitely not, DirectX5 is like 5000 years old. However, have you tried disabling Avast before running the game?

Reinstalling the game won't affect your saves. Well, it'll ask you whether you want to delete them, so obviously say no.

Edit: Edited answer to... Well, make sense.

lol ok.

I can't remember what it brought up to delete but I thought it was a version of dx or maybe java? idk.

Anyway, right after I posted this I went to figure out a different problem with another game I got here recently, Book of Unwritten Tales 2. That game won't even start for me, and that was before this current issue. I found a post about downloading dx 9 runtimes and installing them, so I did that. (like I said I thought it was dx something it had me get rid of, maybe it was something with this?)

Now I'm gonna restart my laptop and see if it helps at all.

If not I'll try running with Avast off.

If that doesn't work this laptop is going through the window after I buy a better one.
