So I'm in the process of installing the game right now, and in my current D&D campaign, I'm playing a ranger with two weapon fighting. Now I haven't seen too much of the game, I know that every class can pretty much equip any type of equipment, so the game wouldn't stop me from playing a melee ranger, but is it going to be considerably less effective than a ranged ranger? I just don't wanna play the game and feel like my character is weak.

i have not played ranger, but you can use any weapons.
I am playing a fighter and i THINK all the talents like dual wielding, marksman etc. are universal, so everybody can get them.
That would allow you to play a dual wielding ranger.
The fighter talents are mostly melee based, but it says that when you can choose your class, so if the ranger skills are mostly range based that will be displayed somewhere.
You might want to check out the rogue, but if you are wanting the ranger because of the animal companion, well, then, yeah, just check out all of the options then decide what suits you best.
Should be fine. All of the rangers abilities said they work with melee weapons too I think.
While I haven't explored it myself, some of the class videos I've seen claim that rangers are quite powerful melee, and rogues are actually superior to rangers at ranged combat.

From what I can tell (only level 4 so haven’t gone far in game yet) all characters can choose from the exact same traits in offense, defense and utility, so you can make any class specialize in any weapon choices you want. Class traits are the area that differentiate the different characters, so study those or look for online vids that talk about class traits. That will give you an idea of the strengths/weaknesses of choosing one class over another.

So for instance fighters have a class trait that allows you to knockdown opponents, but wizards do not. Wizard’s traits deal mainly with magic abilities. So as far as my limited experience goes it looks like weapon skills are equal for any class when it comes to to-hit, damage buffs, fighting styles, etc. (offense and defense traits), you just have to choose to spend trait points in your weapon skills of choice.
