How in the world do we get past the spider in the Kohatekana Forest in SSS DLC?

I sort of stumbled my way through that, and I'm guessing your companions are meant to be abducted 1 by 1. When my Watcher, alone, met up w/ the spider, the rest of the party was gathered on the other side. If I'm right, any path you take is irrelevant to the series of scripted abductions. Either that, or I was supremely lucky finding my way to it.
