Just to document what happened. In version 1.0.2.0508 of this game there is a backer-created content:

On 2015-04-05, the CEO, Feargus Urquhart, wrote in a Kickstarter Update that this one piece (amongst hundreds, mind you) was not quality controlled, so they asked the specific backer about a new text and will replace it with his provided new text.

So, it's not enough that today we are at the stage a bunch of people have the power to change already released art to their liking because they are not happy with the fictional characters contained.
No, they also have the power that the producers all use obfuscating "press speech" about it.
I find it highly unlikely that only this one piece was not "vetted" as they call it.
poe is not an unmoderated internet forum where you can say anything you want. Obsidian gets to decide what is in it. That is all.
Just let it die. If people would stop going on and on about this 'issue' ad nauseum, it would likely give far less publicity to the contemptible social justice warrior that started all this crap in the first place. The only benefit being reaped with this is the attention garnered by that hypocritical piece of crap that started the whole thing.
Oh dear, I'm bored...

I disagree. An internet forum is not art. It can contain art, but as a whole isn't. If one makes art (game) and releases it as 1.0 to the public, he can not just go back and change it, like that "Han shot first" scene.
Also, a internet forums is like being in the creators own house. His rules apply. But this (game) was released. It was already consumed by thousands of people and thus assimilated by the minds of them. In this case, the art, or work, as a whole has a greater meaning than just a few lines of facebook white noise in a forum. At this point, at the point of release, it became art. And I don't like people changing art. That is all.

Also, the response to this thread, 2 posts after merely half an hour, (and yes, "Oh dear, I'm bored..." counts), justifies my post as a thing which is important to people and what really happened should be documented, and not just be ignored.

Gibberish. Say something coherent and on point and we can have a discussion.
They are not compromising their artistic vision, they removed a childish and potentially offensive joke which a backer paid to put in the game. You could actually argue they compromised their vision the minute they decided not to bother to properly vet backer content to make sure it actually fitted the world of Pillars of Eternity. I sincerely hope they are going to vet them now and remove the the other examples of ridiculous names, stories and tombstones.

I've actually been using that mod that changes backer names and not bothering to read tombstones and backer NPC stories as I find many of them immersion breaking.
1-The poem was only potentially offensive for homophobic people. It has been misinterpreted by morons.
2-Obsidian asked the backer who wrote it if he wanted to keep it as is, or change it.
3-He changed it, and the new version now makes fun of said morons in the first point.
4-Please don't start this worthless discussion here too.

Firedorn changed a memorial by himself. (you can find his own posts about it on Obsidian forums) Cause he dosnt want any problems for Obsidian. Im agree its odd, Listening to some pathetic random whiners from twitter . But it was choice of backer to change a poem. No worries :)

Karriq: I think you are wrong, see DocDoomII for the correct things which happened as far as I know. See https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity/posts/1188370 "we checked with the backer who wrote it and asked them about changing it". So the author did not change it by himself but was asked to. If that statement is not true, and it was like you said, it seems obvious there is some spin-doctoring going on, don't you think? What would you do if Obsidian wrote you a letter, and asking you to change it?

alcaray: Thank you, but I don't want a discussion with you. This post was created with the intention to just document what happened anyways, not for me to argue with people, which, granted, I led myself into already, and gladly continue. Just with you, my very best friend, I don't care about any future word exchange.

AlienMind: yes, he was asked. But again, he changed it by free will. If obsidian asked me? I ill say "Nope" :) Cause i dont give a drek about some freaks from twitter. But its backers limerick and his decision. Odd decision if you ask me, but again, its his property, and he is free to do whatever he wants with it.

I agree with OP.
The quote was hilarious! :-)
