Maybe it's because I'm not used to this game, but when I go to search something, as in I try to face something to press the action button, my character just moves to the side.

Like, is that normal? Are there only specific things that can be searched, like chests and stuff? It looks like a bug to me but maybe that's because I'm used to other games where I have to search everything lol.

It's called "Pathfinding". Disable it in the game options if it annoys you. (There are a couple of places that are next to impossible to search with Pathfinding on, otherwise, I played with it enabled.)
