I get a full black screen for 2 secs then it goes to a half black screen for 2 secs then a small black screen for 2 secs then ctd with no errors. i have restarted pc, I have run as admin, I have done the widescreen patch. All gets same results. Any idea?

Success with Windows 8 is very variable and there are mixed results. Let's try the usual checks:
1) Have you tried setting a compatibility mode for Windows 7 on the exe?
2) Have you also made sure that your anti-virus software is not attempting to "sandbox" the game, which will just prevent it from working like it's supposed to?

If you've done both of these and the game still does not work, then I can only recommend you to check the forum and see if anyone else managed to get the game working. If you find nothing, I recommend submitting a ticket to GOG.com support and see if they can assist.
