I've played Pharaoh for years from a CD from a box from a shelf from a real store. Now I've downloaded the GOG version and am trying to install it.

I'm running Debian Linux (Jessie) and version 1.6.2-20 of Wine -- the Windows Emulator. I installed multi-arch, deleted both the ~/.wine and ~/.wine64 directories, and configured the drives.

Then I entered "wine d:\\w\\phadown\\setup_pharaoh_gold_2.0.0.12.exe" in a terminal only to have it die with the fatal message "Access violation at address 00441511E in module 'setup_pharaoh_gold_2.0.0.12.exe'. Write of address 00400000."

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hi. I was able to run the game with PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit, but WITHOUT using the official PlayOnLinux script (wich don't work on my pc).

Here the step I followed:
-> 1) I installed a recent version of wine provided by PlayOnLinux (I tried with 1.9.15 - x86 version, obliouvsly)
-> 2) i created a new wine prefix ("pharaoh_GOG")
-> 3) I moved the GOG installer in WINEPREFIX/drive_c
-> 4) I created a new shortcut for "pharaoh_GOG" wineprefix -> selected the pharaoh installer
-> 5) I launched the installer from the shortcut created this way and make it installed
-> 6) When the installation was finished, I added a new shortcut with the actual game exe, and removed the
shortcut to the installer
-> 7) Final step (optional) I removed from the Desktop all the shortcuts PlayOnLinux created during this process

From now on I can play game with PlayOnLinux.

EDIT: NO issue at all. The problem I mentioned in the original reply was caused by the widescreen version(s) of pharaoh, but if you use the original .exe provided by GOG the game works perfectly.
Even if my actual screen resolution is 1360x720 I set the Pharaoh wineprefix to 'emulate desktop' so I can play the game in a window instead of fullscreen, setting resolution (both to window and in-game) to 800x600 wich is enough good to play ;)
