When I finally saw that I could buy this game here I was really excited to re-live my childhood days of a city that keeps burning and not knowing why. (Kinda..?)

Any time I try and run this game I double click on the shortcut and the screen goes black as if the game is launching. I then get a blue screen saying that my memory as crashed or something and that my laptop is rebooting?

I've tried running it as an administrator and running it in every compatibility mode, but nothing seems to work.

Does anybody have any idea on how this can be fixed? I really want to play this game again.

Cheers.

Getting a BSOD indicates there's something wrong with your system, it just so happens that launching Pharaoh is causing the issue. If the error is to do with corrupted memory, you'll need to remove the RAM memory sticks from their ports, clean them and reinsert them. It would be good to know exactly what message is being reported in the BSOD though to assist further.
This is the report afterwards:

Have you checked inside the files that it mentions ? The specific error should be mentioned in there.
The files can't be found apparently.
When BSOD is shown is there any text string that looks like CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION (just an example)?
I haven't experienced this issue myself, but quick search revealed that this BSOD could indicate many things, including hard drive, video drivers and overheating. Windows 7 has built-in memory diagnostic tool which you should try.

Hi, i got the the same problem. I feared for having to buy a new laptop, but there was a solution.

If you see the blue screen information there is a "igdpmd64.sys" problem, saying there is a problem with a newly installed softwarepaket (in my case Pharaoh was the only possible since three weeks). The cause could be a conflict between an optional windows update "KB2670838" and pharaoh gold paket. This win update is well known for software conflicts causing BSOD.

So I took three steps

1. After starting Win 7 in safe modus, I deinstalled pharaoh gold completely.
2. I deactivated the automatic windows update function.
3. I deinstalled windows update "KB2670838". Here you can see how to do it: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/kb2670838-installation-and-igdpmd64sys-blue-screen/e8f13e0f-7ea0-4d10-b1b5-71c084110473.

After this I could restart my Windows 7 normally and surf in the internet without any BSOD.

I have too much fear to try it, but in theory now (after removing win update KB 2670838) there should be no problem with pharaoh, so in theory it should be possible now to (re)install pharaoh with the downloaded .exe data and play without any BSOD.

I hope it is helpful to you. If you should try to reinstall, it would be fine to hear from you:)

Kind regards,
J
This thread is over 3 years old, it's quite likely the OP has fixed the problem, though your advice is probably useful for anyone else if they have the problem as well (which seems very unlikely).
