It's been rumored, and even mentioned on the Phantasmagoria wiki page, that Spoony's Let's Play of Phantasmagoria 2 popularized the game. I've read comments on the internet of people saying they got into P2 because of Spoony. Well, I watched the first video. He talks all the time, trying to make as many jokes as absolutely possible. The problem is, he talks over important dialogue points, which causes him to miss key hints and ruins the experience for me. This isn't supposed to be a funny game. Humor and Phantasmagoria do not mix. Well okay, humor is fine if you use it sparingly, but not if you use it to the extent that Spoony did. I'll admit I did find him funny at first, but then he just overdid it with the humor. And this LP popularized the game?

I think a lot of his fans had never played or seen the game before. They were fans of HIM, not necessarily the game. Personally, I think if you became a fan of the game via him, you became a fan for the wrong reason.

As far as good LP's of the game go, Saxcat20's LP is better. Saxcat20 LPed this game thankfully by himself and his LPs are generally pretty good when he is by himself.

Spoony is painfully unfunny. His Phan2 let's play is by far his only good video/whatever though. His Ripper one is unbearably unfunny. Avoid that like the plague.
His main problem is that he's so self-indulgent in unfunny "in-jokes" in addition to just soullessly ripping off MST3K.

The reason people talk about him supposedly "making this game popular" is the same reason you see plugs for that horrible Angry Joe guy on Reddit and the Steam Forums, that website they were from was at one time sort of popular. That's pretty much it.

I also hate how Dark Seed 2 is forever associated now with some other unfunny lets play.

I think I watched some episodes or part of it after I finished both games. He made some summery of the game at the end with all the 'annoying' bits and pieces combined in a funny way, wearing a costume IIRC, that was actual funny with insider jokes for people who know the game then.

Spoony is just another MST3K wannabe.
The success of Mystery Science Theater 3000 caused dozens of imitators. most of them bad. And that MST3K had ti's great success just when the Internet was going mainstream added to the stream of imitators.
BTW the new NETFLIX episodes of MST3K are that most rare of things: A revival of a show that is actually almost as good as the original. The guys have not lost the magic.

Spoony is occasionally funny,but more often is not. With Phanta 2, he had such a obvous target that anybody could get a laugh poking fun at it.
