I'm on the final puzzle at the treshold and when i turn the lens at the 4'o clock position and click on the device above it to fire the laser the game crash/exits without any warning.. it just closes like nothing happened. Anyone have any idea about what may be the culprit/solution? I'm just one or two steps away from finishing the game and i can't, this is driving me insane...

I had the same problem. But as long as you solve it in the correct order it seems to work. Make sure you've connected the loose wires (the wres on the left and bottom of the screen show how to connect them)
Fire the laser above the lens with the lens at 2 and 10 o'clock, then when you have the lens at 4 o'clock, click the button on the laser to the right of the lens, not the one above and you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for the help but the game still crashes no matter what :(
can you tell me exactly the sequence you did from the start?
the first thing is to setup the wires right before anything else?
then i should set the lens to 2'oclock and fire the upper laser
and then set the lens to 10'oclock and fire the upper laser
and finally set the lens to 4'oclock adjust the triangle to leave the red dot on bottom right, click once the upper right laser and then on the upper left laser?

Just saw an walkthrough on youtube and evidently you have to press that upper left laser at some point.. but it's no good. My game keeps crashing when i do it. Maybe i should edit something at the dosboxPHANT2.conf ?

I crashed a bunch at the end here too. I resorted to following the instructions in this walkthrough and I successfully got past this part.

I was crashing as well. I followed the walkthrough posted by briandamage and i made it through the puzzle.

I can't finish either...maybe Im doing it wrong in the walkthrough...but it still crashes for me :(

Edit: Finished it...still think gog should fix the bug though...very irritating .. :/

Man, considering how buggy this game was back in the day, I'm amazed this is the only problem that's risen so far. Still, it happened to me and it really takes you out of the game when you've got to consult a walkthrough to progress. Ah well, it's not like the ending was good anyway.

I was having the exact same problem. Would start the puzzle, connect the 7 wires, everything fine. But if I then dared to click on the spiked object in the top left it would kick me straight out. I soon learnt that other combinations made it close too. However, after coming to this forum and seeing the link to the walkthrough that briandamage posted, that worked a treat and in my opinion briandamage's response is definitely the solution to this.

The amount of crashes and bugs in the final chapter/day of Phantasmagoria 2 was astounding in the final release of the game.
Back then they never released any fixes for it either, so praise yourself lucky for only crashing there, instead of having major crashes every two minutes.

There is a reason to why we old-time gamers always save often and in different slots. ;)

I know this is an old post, but I wasted hours searching for a fix until I came across the solution. The final puzzle is bugged. To solve the bug. You must do two steps:

- Delete 65535.MAP from Phantasmagoria 2 installation folder.
- Copy 3485.CSC from Phantasmagoria 2\Patches to Phantasmagoria 2 installation folder.

I did this at the very end of the game, because the final puzzle kept crashing on me. I have no idea if it has any effect on the game if you do this at the start. You have been warned.

Thank you so much, I don't know how you came up with the solution but this is the real solution. Other walkthrough which supposed to work has been removed from ign anyway.
