Right well on the first mission you do with the harkback frame, the one in which you have to capture three howitzers and a lab, whenever i actually achieve the objectives instead of declaring the objectives are complete it tells me i have failed then the mission ends.... : /
I have checked and double checked the objectives and i deffinitely have to capture them and that is what i have done a few times over... its starting to get annoying. has anyone else had this problem? anyway of getting round it?
This question / problem has been solved by Wishboneimage
All you have to do is build energy towers next to them, there's nothing more to it. You also need to prevent the other frame from accomplishing this goal before you. After you've captured 3 of the howitzers you have to capture the lab in the north as well, after that's done the mission ends. The only way you can lose is to have the other frame capture all of them before you or their robots destroying your frame or something else extremely important for success. Can't help more than that.

I did all that. several times over in fact, but every time i achieve the objective it tells me i have failed and ends the mission. Its starting to piss me right off, i have done this misssion several times over just in case i was being stupid but no, the game is just fucked. It is quite clearly a bug.

Have you managed to get past this issue yet ?
The only way i see this happening, other than a very nasty bug like you mentioned, is that you are in fact capturing the 3 howitzers but you're failing to keep all 3 of them 'alive' to the end of the mission.
I just played past that mission and the ennemy units always go for the howitzers you have already captured. Best way i found to protect the howitzers is placing a generator (generator, not energy transmitter) right next to each of them, raising the generator individual shield and leaving it up till the end of the mission.

Yeah i made sure i did that kept those shields up the whole mission. the first couple of times i tried the mission i failed for exactly that reason, letting the howitzers get destroyed. To be honest i uninstalled the game and havent gone back to it. I will redownload it and try again at some point and if the problem persists i will see what gog support can do. Its looking a little bit like i am the only one having this problem though (typical D:) so i wouldnt discourage anyone from buying the game.

Well, i do hope that you manage to get past that issue at some point cause it really is a great game.
I am having the exact same problem. I have searched online for a solution, but all I have been able to find is that the mission will fail if you do the objectives in the wrong order, meaning you have to capture the 3 howitzers before you capture the bomb lab. However, I have tried this as well, and it still tells me I've failed the mission as soon as I capture the 3rd howitzer.
Add to this the fact that the game crashes to desktop with an access violation anytime I try to restart a mission, and I've just about had it up to here with this buggy piece of... something.

Could the acess violation be OS related ?
Win7 and Vista are touchy with acessing saves and configs and whatnot unless you tick the 'run as admin' checkbox in the shortcut.

I suppose it could be, although I've deliberately installed the game outside the Program Files folder. I also don't see what data the game would try to access upon restarting a mission, but not upon starting it in the first place. I have notified GOG support of the issue, but I haven't heard from them yet.
Still, that is the least of my problems, as I can work around it. I can't work around not being able to complete the mission.
[EDIT] Finally found a solution of sorts, here.
Basically, how far you've advanced in the campaign is denoted by a single number in a flat text file. Go to your Perimeter folder and onward to Resource\Saves\Profile0 and look for a file called "data". Open it in any text editor and increment the number after "lastMissionNumber". That will let you start the next mission. It's more of a workaround than a fix, but it'll get you past a mission that simply can't be completed.

I installed the game, played past that mission and was on my way to upload a profile to media fire with saves for all the missions up to the one right after this one when i saw your edit ;)
The workaround you found is certainly easyer.
I'm still stumped why does that particular mission bugs out for you guys.
Anyway, enjoy Perimeter cause it really is an awesome game.

Hehe, sorry you went to all that trouble. That must have taken quite a while.
And yes, the game is fun and it's different, but it's sloooow... I wish there were more than two speeds to play it at, because even at "fast-forward" speed, everything takes forever to do, especially terraforming.

No trouble at all. In the end it was a good 'excuse' to install it and play it again ;)
Some missions are a bit slow, but others can keep you pretty busy. The trick with terraforming, is to do it in small chunks of terrain, cause if you select a large area, the little buggers go a bit nuts rushing back and forth. In some maps micromanaging the terraforming actually makes a big difference.

I do micromanage it, but in many places I don't think it helps a lot. When you need to build up land, and there is no land nearby that can be lowered, you're screwed, it's as simple as that. Also, it's really annoying that many unit types simply die if they touch water, especially since they're also stupid enough to walk right into it.
At one point, I had a huge squad that was keeping the enemy in check almost eliminated because they eventually bombed away the land beneath them and fell into the water below :-( But then, now I know that if I use that tactic, I have to extend the nanobot maintenance zone to include the bit of land the squad is standing on.

That's true, squads are a bit oblivious to terrain and it's best to keep an eye on them. The first tome around, i lost many squads to terrain, or lack of terrain to be more precise.
The nano thing, i guess it depends on the mission. There are missions where it pays to nano small strips and set a buch of generators real fast, and worry about terraforming terrain to install the frame later, others it's best to set down the frame first, it really depends. That's one thing i like about Perimeter, lots of different missions. And even after playing this 3 or 4 times before, some missions are still a bit hard.
I'm actually playing right now, it's on pause on my gaming rig ;)

Thank you so much for posting this. I ran into this very annoying bug. In fact it caused me to uninstall perimeter. I'm back and enjoying the game now.
