The Hanseatic League is great and all, but trade areas world-wide had their own flavors of politics and economies. So I was thinking how homogeneous the Patrician world is, and what other times and areas of the world might add more flavor. The rise of the merchant class plays out in lots of different ways.

The Barbary Coast of the 1600-1800s, for example, would be a fascinating addition, especially with the moral choice to trade slaves or not. Trading between Europe and the Americas from 1492-1812 would bring many wars and political turmoil into play.

What times and places would you like to try making a profit in?
I don't know... the far east seems interesting (I'd like a more advanced version of Taipan, basically).

But I quite like the setting for the Patrician games, and I think there's many exciting things they can do with it. Maybe even expand the scope a bit, to allow for trading outside the hanseatic areas.
Agreed with Zeewolf, the Far East would be interesting (even though I haven't played Taipan).
Additionally, it would be somewhat cool to have a trading-focused game involving the whole Medieval Europe, where you could profit from the availability of certain goods only in Northern or in Southern Europe.

But, I'm content with the Hanseatic of the Patrician games and the Carribean of the Port Royales.
I just picked Port Royale up for the sale, and it looks like it will fulfill those Caribbean trade fantasies just fine.

The Far East idea is interesting, but the more I read about the Barbary Coast, the more I wonder why it's not in a game already. Am I missing a title, here?
