I can watch the intro movie and I can get the menu screen but when I try to enter gameplay it says 'Set Display Mode Failed'. I hit okay and get a prompt which says 'Der engestellte Grafiksmodus ist ungultig. Bitte starten sie GFXTEST erneut!'

I've installed the DirectX, played with compatibility mode, and gotten a .reg file for 32 and 64 bit, nothing changes it at all.

Go to Patrician game folder, find p3setup.exe and test the resolution you want to use (probably 1280/1024x32) AND 800x600x16. Then it will work (and you can change between these two resolutions).
