Guys!! I need ur help!

I recently started playing this now im the Alderman,the problem is evrytime I open any kind of message be it a taxbill or those from the tavern or the a repayment the game crashes! I exempted the exe in the firewall but its still the same..My OS is Vista Home

I am experiencing the same kinda problem. Im 75 % into 2 "scenario" and accepted a patrol mission. I sucessfully reach the first city and then when i open letter about next location the game gives me a "patrrician 3 is experiencing a problem..." and crashes. Now everytime i open any mail it happens.

Try deleting the .pst file from the offending savegame, it contains mostly statistics and iirc the mail, the important stuff is in the .pat and the game loads fine without .pst. You'd of course lose your history in the various reports, but that accumulates again and chances are you won't miss most of it anyway.

If that doesn't help, try fast forwarding a bit, maybe its not actually the mail but a certain point in time became crashy for whatever else is happening there, and a week later things would work again? Before you give up on your current save for good, try fast forwarding the previous one to the trouble spot, to be sure it doesn't develop the same problem.

This problem still showed up. The game worked perfectly fine, I'm almost mayor in my hometown and suddenly every message I try to open up through the message tab crashes the game. I found one link on a steam page about downloading a patch but it's a random steamlink to a zipped exe so I'm not exactly trusting of it.
Uninstalling and reinstalling, repairing the installation didn't work.
Edit: Went with the patch and another file that allowed my win10 to handle 16bit stuff because it apparently required it but now it works. 1.1b is the patchname

I experienced this same issue and can also vouch for the unofficial patch solving it without doing anything nefarious. I found the following on the fandom wiki for the game:

"The latest patch for Patrician 3 can be found here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20061020070725/http://www.ascaron.org/patrician3/Patrician3Patch_v11bBeta.zip

To install it, simply extract the contents of the .zip package into Patrician 3 game folder (you might want to backup the original files in that folder first)."

An observation for others...both the "archive" link itself and the Patrician3 website link within the link appear to redirect you to an Australian website entitled www.0format.com. I've encountered no indication or evidence that this is or may be a malicious site, I'm merely pointing this out to save others wasting their precious time.
