Champions have even less health than footman. They have only 24 health in stead if the footman's 42. Are they supposed to be massive glass cannons or is this a bug?

They are glass cannons, they are one of the highest units damage wise

But is 24 hitpoints not too little. It makes them nearly unusable because they are so easy to kill. They are supposed to be an elite unit.

They rarely get targeted. Use some tanks like cleric or hellknights to draw fire from them
