I seem to remember that it was told that any character can choose a deity, not just clerics. If that is true, when/how does that happen?

I may be wrong but as far as I know, deity selection is relevant for Divine spellcasters such as Clerics, Paladins, and Inquisitors - granting them spells.

While Druids and Rangers draw divine inspiration from nature.
