Hi!

After not being able to play PG2 from my late 90s CD I bought the game again from GOG last week.

Everything seems to work as usual, except when playing campaigns all of a sudden from one scenario to the next I am unable to upgrade my units further.

It shows for example the Tiger and Panther tanks, I can click on them to upgrade, it also shows the cost but the "buy" button stays shaded and doesn't work.

I tried re-installing the game but that didn't help either. During the first few rounds upgrading worked perfectly.

Any ideas? Did this happen to anybody else?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I have been playing PG2 since the late 90s and really would like to enjoy it again.

Hi, you seem to already know the game, so I assume you really try to upgrade and not buy (and hit the limit for the amount of core units). I haven't seen the issue. How much prestige and how many free core slots do you have? Have you selected the unit for upgrading?

Hi!

Thanks for replying. At that point I had 12000 prestige and a ton of units. I was trying to upgrade a Panzer IV to a Panther and couldn't.

I now started a new campaign from scratch and now I can't even do upgrades right from the start. That worked when I got the game from GOG. It does count down prestige but the unit remains the old unit. In other words I spend prestige but don't get anything in return.

Really strange. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it didn't fix the problem.

A friend of mine from Germany told me I could run my old CD under Windows 7 if I somehow create a "separate machine" on my computer. Don't know how to do that but he comes over in June. So maybe I should just wait and use the CD again.

Thanks for trying to help!

12000 prestige is quite a lot for PG2. So I wonder if this is a programming error, or if there are issue saving/writing to the folder containing the save files. That's the subfolder 'SAVE' of the install directory. you have only used ASCII characters and no whitespaces for the save file, have you?

If you want, I can also test if I can perform upgrades on a save file of yours.
