Where does the GOG variant of PG2 put its save games? I'd like to back some of mine up. I would expect them to be in the old .csv format in \save, but no such luck.
Don't know where the problem lies on your copy, because my savegames lie all in the SAVE directory as .csv files (due to OpenOffice installed on my PC they are "recognised" as "OpenOffice.org 1.1 Spreadsheet", however)

A little background: I'm running on 64-bit Win 7, and the path on my system is C:\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\Panzer General 2 (odd that it isn't gog.com as the other GOG games). I've done a complete search of *.csv files on my system (hidden files and all) with no luck, checked the user profiles' hidden AppData folders, My Documents, etc.

There is a text file in the \save folder, but its contents is the text Achtung Panzer! only.

The save files are being created; I can see them within the game itself, but for the life of me I cannot locate them on my system. Very annoying!

I'm also running Win 7 x64 (Ultimate version in my case) and it works fine by me so that ain't the problem. The problem might very well be your install path: DOS and early Windows games can't make use of a Directory name with a dot in it (Dosbox however can circumvent that problem for Dos Games), that's why it got automatically renamed at the installation. However, this might not be true for the savegame path, which is still looking for panzer general 2 in the GOG.com directory. Best thing to do would be to reinstall the game in a different directory without a dot in it's name and then try it again

hove you searched for the names of the savegames on your computer? if you didn't do a search for the complete C:\ i advise you to do so, you'll might find their location then. If he doesn't find them then the programm probably made ghost files which are deleted after leaving the game

1.
For compatibility reasons Vista and Windows 7 virtualizes Program Files folder (and registry) for older programs that try to write under c:\Program Files .

In case of 64-bit Windows (and PG2 default installation path) you can find the files at:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\Panzer General 2\SAVE
or expanded:
c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\Panzer General 2\SAVE

2. To really find hidden files:
Launch a Command Prompt window, and change dir to the drive's root folder where you suspect the file is located. For the PG2 save files I used these commands:
cd /d c:\
dir /s savename.csv

Where /s means recursive search from the current folder.

Mine was:

C:\Users\GUESS\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\Panzer General 2\SAVE

Whereas, normally all additions wll occur to the Roaming subsection, VirtualStore is in the Local.

Worked for me!
However... a few saved files were NOT removed! [Odd!!]
Found them @ the following file path:
local disk (C:)/Program Files (x86)/GOGcom/Panzer General 2/Save
