I'm trying to get Painkiller: Overdose to load on Win7, but every time I try to run the game it returns a "Parental controls do not allow you to run the game" error. I've never used "Parental Controls" before and it shouldn't be enabled. Is there a way to fix this bug? I've attached a screenshot.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I haven't been able to fix it. I looked online, but the only thing I could find was this forum where players are encountering the same error, but could not find a solution. :(
Yes,

I'm getting the same error on two PCs
One is windows ultimate 64 and the other is 2012r2 server, same error on both machines.

There are NO parental controls enabled and I have the games set to "run as administrator"

Hi,

Please click this link: https://www.gog.com/support/contact/technical_issues_with_games/painkiller_overdose and select "launching issues" and include the error message you receive as well as your basic system info so we can investigate this issue further as we did not see it while testing the game from start to finish :)

That link will take you to the direct support page for the game :)

It works fine here, but i'm using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit; i think that is not a problem of this game.

After much trial and error, I think I have finally fixed the problem! It looks like the "Overdose.exe" file is unique in that it specifically calls the "Parental Control" program of the Windows operating system. This involves the "gameux.dll" in the Windows folder. Most GOG games do not have to do this.

Unfortunately that same gameux.dll file is also known for causing slow down issues in some Win7 machines. This is called the "rundll32.exe" error. On this website there was a fix to speed up these games, but as a side effect, it apparently disables the Parental Control as well.

To fix this problem, one has to re-run the batch file from that website to undo the gameux.dll change. I hope this info will help other people who have encountered this error.

ironArcturus, that fix did not work for me. On my rif there is no game uax in syswow64, so nothing to rename or change in there.

THIS IS THE ONLY GAME THAT HAS EVER GENERATED THIS ERROR

never seen that before
Someone needs to find a way around this...
Thanks. Fixed my problem. I too have also installed that .bat file and running it again did it for me.

So like I downloaded it from here http://ubeogesh-things.blogspot.com/2012/08/resolve-it-finally-game-explorer-aka.html to fix rundll32.exe in the past. During the first run this bat will make fixes to rundll and the 2nd one to revert those changes.

No, no, I've fixed this particular problem a long time ago. Now the problem with the PARENTAL CONTROLS message with Painkiller: Overdose, not so much. And it will never be fixed, I'm afraid.

You misunderstood me. What I meant was fixing rundll is the cause for the Parental Control Error. Which is why reverting that fix allowed me to play the game. :)
Aha, I get it. But then most older games do not run! Not gonna screw hundreds of games for only one.

Well, I just revert the fix when I play this game and apply it again if I want to play other games.
