I would love to play this awesome game again but for some reason it just wont start.
As soon as I run the executable my screen flickers a bit (resolution switch) and then goes back to 1920*1080 with a small gray box in the top left(about 800*600). That is all the game does.

I tried all the different thing with the .exe (compatibility modes, run as admin) and it still does nothing. Re-downloading and re-installing also no solution.
Also tried the 3D analyzer prog from the other topic but still nothing.
I am running Dual screens but even on one screen it doesnt do a thing.

Not heard of this one on Painkiller before but here are a few things you may be able to try:

Where have you installed to? Don't install into Program Files or Program Files (x86) as they are protected folders and may cause issues.

Have you installed Win7 SP1 yet (I don't know whether that might cause issues, simply because it is too recent, but maybe someone on here has tried it?). If you have then it might be an issue with SP1.

Do you have the latest graphics drivers for your GPU?

Are you running any overclocks? If so, try running at stock speeds and see if that is any better.

Lastly, do you have a successful download (as the download is very large). When you run the installer it should validate the file (checking integrity or something). If that passes then your download is fine. And when installing, run the installer as Administrator.
Having the same exact issue. also says the download was corrupt. Tried it 3 times now. This is getting old...

I was having this issue too and found an answer on another forum. Evidently lowering your screen resolution will let it launch. I dropped mine all the way to 1024x768 and it launched.
It worked! Thank you.
I love you man :D
it worked thanks
That's what I did:

Right click on the game icon >> Properties >> Compatibility >> Check "Run in 640 x 480 resolution" >> Run the game >> Switch to your native resolution in game settings

Hope it helps
This is how it works for me, on Windows 7 64 bit:
Start Painkiller from menue -> screen flickering, then the grey rectangle -> press ESC -> grey full screen -> press ESC -> nVidia-Logo -> ESC -> Painkiller-Menu

btw: this was only on the first startup. On subsequent starts it played two intro-videos without problems.
Resolution is set to 1900x1200.
If you go into the config.ini file, which is in Painkiller/bin, and change Cfg.Resolution to your native resolution, it should work fine.

Thanks for the help all. The uninstall/reinstall worked (and then I had to remember how to get the game to start again by down-rezing my screen). All is well now.
