Hello, I bought Painkiller Black Edition yesterday and I've got a problem.
I started playing the game yesterday and when I wanted to continue today, I couldn't load my saved games. always when I wanted to load a saved game, my game crashes when the map is finished loading. Is there some way to fix this or am I doing something wrong? (Btw. I'm on Chapter 1 Level 3).
My system:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
RAM: 4,00 GB RAM
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4850 (512 GDDR3 RAM)
Sound: Realtek HD Audio (On board)
Did I forget something? I hope not :)
It would be very sad if loading saved games doesn't work. I tested several saves from this level and no one did work. Playing the level from the beginning works though.

There was an issue with Painkiller: Black edition where certain saves would get corrupted, either crashing while saving or loading the game.
I've never really heard of a fix for this issue except trying to save again / using different slots / reinstalling the game to a different harddrive (in case it's a HD corruption problem). All I know is that you're far from the only one reporting this bug across the web since the release of Painkiller: Black.
Okay, thank you anyways :)
Should I mark your post as solution now? I mean, it's not really solved, but alteast I know what's the problem now :D

So far I haven't run into this problem with my retail copy, but I had the Gold edition + latest patches to bring it up to the Black edition (1.64 I think). Is it Vista specific? I'm still using XP SP3 and an nVidia card.

It would sound like stonebro is right, but you may want to check any error logs generated by Painkiller and see if that gives any further information.
Mhhh, now that's weird.
I reinstalled Windows Vista and Painkiller Black Edition and now I can load my saved games. I will report in this thread again when it crashes again, but it looks like it's fixed now (somehow) :D
One more question to deoren: Do you know where Painkiller Black Edition saves error logs? I didn't see any, I didn't even know that the game makes one when it crashes after loading the saves :)
Did you mean in your original post that all your savegames got corrupted, no matter what?
If so, it was likely either a permissions issue (caused by the operating system, probably fixed upon reinstall), or harddrive issue (caused by software or hardware malfunction), probably fixed upon reinstall.

I could load any save where you choose to start a level, but not the ones where I'm already in a level. It was really weird. I actually don't know what the problem was, and I don't know if it could be a permissions issue (maybe the savegame-types are different?). But it can't be a harddrive issue.

Sorry, I didn't see your post until just now. I'll have to take a look and see if I can find out.
Edit:
I couldn't seem to find any info on error/crash logs (I don't have access to the game at the moment), but this looks to be useful:
Workaround for savegame bug in patch 1.2
That is of course for an older version, but the trick may work. If you've invested a lot of time into your save games it might be worth testing.

Hehe, no problem. Thanks for replying ;)
Well, I've read the workaround and it says
Note: workaround only lets you play your level
from the start. I have tried, but no chance to
do it from within the level.

I can play the levels from the start, but not within a level :D So this workaround is pretty much useless for me :). But thanks anyways!
I still wonder why it's working now, maybe it really had something to do with Vistas permissions stuff :P
I just read that removing all of the saves out of the save folder leaving the most current one has fixed it for some. Though, I can't find any of my saves to test it out! :(
EDIT 1: Thanks to Ralackk for the following info...
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/painkiller_black_edition/location_of_save_game_files
Anyway, I am stuck at the end of level 3/1 the Train Station on Nightmare. So, I might just start from scratch and stop using the Quick Save since it's obviously bugged still. The files seem to load fine and can play from there, but all saves onward from there make the game crash once I do any type of saving, hitting the checkpoint does so as well.
BTW, anyone know where the saves are located? I am under Vista 64, though the game folder shows only one file and had a ton within the game, so I am assuming they are located elsewhere.
EDIT 2: Actually, dumping all of the saves from my PC worked in regards to getting it to work again, luckily, I was able to find level un-lockers for both the easier and Nightmare difficulties that had each of the cards already earned. Ended up deleting the later level's saves though since I haven't earned those yet. Will save these un-lockers in case it happens again however. Here's a link to them for those that need them. Makes less work than trying to get back to where we were. :)

The Trauma Access Cheat is the Nightmare saves, the All Level Unlocker is IIRC from the Easiest difficulty. Looks like there's others to, plus some for the expansion as well. :)

I had the same issue during one of the BooH levels. Deleting half of my outdated savegames fixed it for me.
Thanks to this bug i'm stuck at the Trainstation in the beginning of chapter 3, whenever I load a checkpoint or a quicksave the game crashes. The only saves i'm able to load are the ones I made at the beginning of the level. This makes the game unplayable, especially if you're playing on nightmare and want to earn all the cards, like I do.
Hm, Chapter 1 Level 3 is a special case where I also occasionally encounter this problem. It's tied to a physics problem (as are several crashes in the game). In Level 3 there's a rope bridge. Occasionally it isn't created properly and apparently stuck in some kind of collision loop. Loading a saved game where this is the case will cause the game to crash. However, reloading the autosave before this level always saved my butt so far. But apparently you guys are encountering more serious problems...

i had the same problem but what soved it for me was VERY strange
one time i decided to keep trying, but doing things slightly different.
one time i decided to not pickup coins and it worked

i'm certain this was a coincidence but it might be worth a try
