I have gone to the golden temple and the minions have entered the goddess statue but I get no follow up with the quest. I was prompted that I would be told when the minions had open the gate but nothing is happening. Is this a bug or am I missing something. I have saved and restarted, gone back to check and the statue is gone, and have waited, played over some areas, used forge but nothing happens. I have no quests to do.

Ok it is not a bug. Just poor game design (in my opinion). You have to find and defeat ROLLIE before the waypoint will show up at the tower for you to teleport to the desert. There is no mention of where to find and that you have to find and defeat this boss character but he his found in the stronghold. upper level (path to the right).
