It's a miracle that this game is now able to run on modern systems out of the box with the soundtrack working too. Now for one more. Does anyone know how to get the local multiplayer to run on modern machines? Me and my friends want to have a LAN party with this game but how one does that is beyond me after trying to host and join using the directplay options between two laptops. Any ideas? Thanks!

I've been able to play online with my friends through various ways, it should be even easier to play on a LAN (since there's no need for port forwarding).

I would try it through Winsocks (supposedly has better performance than directplay), just go multiplayer -> host game (select winsocks), now take note of the local IP, which should show on the top left of the lobby (it wil most likely start with 192.168....). Now, on the computers that want to join, go multiplayer -> join game (select winsocks). To start, I would leave the IP blank, and attempt to just search for the game. If nothing is found, type in the host's IP you previously took note of and try to find the game that way. The tricky thing here is that you can't use backspace to change the IP because of some bug with outlaws, so you can't really make a mistake when typing the IP address (this is also an issue when having to use a different host in the future with a different IP). There is a way however to change the IP, but you'll have to do this in your registry settings... bit of a pain.

If you run into lots of issues with being unable to change a previously entered IP, you could also try using an application called "dplauncher". Just google dplauncher.exe.

Thank you so much! I'll try the Winsocks method :)
