I'm running Windows 8 (64 bit) and Outlaws won't launch. I've tried all of the suggested fixes (run as Admin, turn off virus/firewall, OFCFG.exe changes etc.) and nothing works. The screen flashes a few times and then nothing. I get an "Assertion failed" message and a Visual C++ problem. I've tried compatibility mode changes, screen resolution changes as well. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have a similar problem. I also get a blank screen and nothing else happens. I have tried all the suggestions too, but nothing works. Running on Windows 8.1(64-bit) with a Geforce GTX980 card.
I got the game working, I changed the display driver to Direct3D in olcfg.exe in the game folder, and then launched olwin.exe, the game now works perfectly :-)
I had the same problem as the one mikroman describes: the game launches but the screen remains black and the task manager says the game is not responding. Changing the driver to Direct3D allowed the game to start properly. (Running on Windows 8.1 64-bit with a Nvidia GTX 660, btw)

I tried changing the driver to direct3D as suggested, but olcfg appears to be stuck on my integrated graphics as default and won't launch... I tried altering the default processor in my nvidia control panel, but it didn't take effect (8.1 64 bit Nvidia GTX960)
