So I changed the graphics mode to D3D.

On the very first level I can run around and shoot people, but when I approach the door of a building everything starts vibrating and multiplying

Edit: Here is a video of the issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg5Daa7h2aw

Tried so far:
Installed nglide - didnt work
3DFX mode - game doesnt launch
Ran as administrator - didn't change anything

I am using an Intel i5 laptop with Intel HD graphics.

Did you push the 'nudge' button?
Yes. This seems to be a major graphic problem. Wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue.

The game is unplayable for me right now.

If I approach any structure that has a terrace, i.e. any building, the game freezes and shudders. I have to step back.

All I can do is run around in the open.

I found some old thread on another website where someone had the same problem but its from years ago and noone had a solution.

I am using Windows 7, just a laptop with just a regular Intel i5, no fancy graphics card or anything (but it plays pretty much every other GOG game perfectly, plus lots of modern games!).
Sorry for my lack of cool recording technology! I took a video of the game with my phone as it is difficult to explain what "I can't enter the building" means without sounding like an idiot who doesn't know what the "action" key is to open a door!

Please view the following video. Any idea what could be causing this? I really wanna kill Bloody Mary Nash but can't get inside the building on level 1, so can't do anything!

Hope someone can help :) Want to play my fave game of all time!

This is in D3D mode. In 3DFX the game doesn't launch.

I have the exact same issue. The only thing I was able to find about it is this old post:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=23720

"Go into display properties, settings, advanced and click on the D3D tab. Set your z-buffer bit depth to 16;24."

Not sure if this is a setting of AMD/Ati cards or if this was possible to change in (older) versions of Outlaws, but I have no idea where that setting resides or how to change it :(

Hi,
I got mine working by running as Administrator.

Whenever I do that, the game starts forced in 3Dfx glide mode, regardless what mode is set in the config menu. This on Win7x64*.

*edit: fixed by running config as administrator as well. Did not fix the graphics problems though :(

Running as administrator has not fixed the issue
Has anyone found a fix for this? GOG support haven't responded.
Tried a bunch of suggestions from GOG support team such as updating graphics driver, direct x, reinstalling as admin, etc, but nothing worked.

Now they are offering a refund in the form of store credit.

I hope someone here with the same issue will finally find the solution :)
You are not alone, bradelli.
I have the same issue and no idea what to do about it.

As soon as I approach any kind of building, even the small toilet in the first level, the screen starts to vibrate/stutter like crazy. :-(

I have Win 8 and a Geforce GTX 850M.
I realize it's a long shot, but have you tried using Pstools to suspend explorer.exe and run the game through the command prompt?

http://www.gog.com/forum/outlaws_a_handful_of_missions/is_it_possible_to_run_in_software_mode

It's pretty easy to do. Just download Pstools, open CMD, navigate to the folder, run 'pssuspend explorer.exe', using CMD go to the Outlaws folder, run olwin.exe. See if it works, doesn't work.

To restore explorer.exe, just go back to the pstools folder in CMD after closing Outlaws and run 'pssuspend -r explorer.exe'.

I don't know if it will help, but I figure it's worth a shot if you haven't tried it already.
Thanks for the hint. Actually, this is how I got Master of Orion II and Panzer General II to run under Win 7.
Unfortunately it does not solve my current issue with Outlaws.

Cheers

Drat. I'd hoped it might have helped.

It's a weird bug. It seems to be caused by moving through sectors but I have no idea why or how it came about.
Hello, logged in just to post my results, as I wanted so badly to replay one of my favorite games of all time.

spent a lot of time trying different settings and solutions and this is what worked for me.

I got an i7 and a GTX 560 for reference

disabled DSR on nvidia control panel

only change in nglide was to match my desktop resolution

ran oldcfg as admin and picked 3dfx glide

then ran olwin as admin

buildings don't flicker anymore, game doesn't crash and even the sound seems to be working.

the only bug is that fmvs got colors all messed up but you can go to options and set skip the videos, they're all on youtube anyway, so this doesn't bother me that much.

hope I helped

*where are you Marshall??*
