As far as I can tell the game switches resolution, resulting in short black screens. Menus and cutscenes are being display in 640x480 while 3d elements are in whatever you set nglide to display them. Try to choose 640x480 in nglide as well and see, if there's any difference. Not that you would want to stay at that resolution ☺

Hm...I just tried "by app" in nglide and the blackscreen was gone for the most part. Which makes sense, since there is no more resolution switching. Still I prefer 2560x1440 :)

This.

It's nothing unusual, just resolution switching. Main menu renders in software, that's how the game was coded.
