So yeah, I decided to buy the copy of the game, since my original game on cd version did not decide to boot. So I have been digging everywhere just to find out how to run the game in windowed mode.

In the ini files of outcast it even has Fullscreen=0 but it seems like the game does not read the ini files so how am I suppose to solve this problem of getting out of full screen into windowed mode. I have also tried all kinds of software accelerations programs to force the game to go into windowed mode, and also all other kinds of other programs, but the problem is still here that the game has issues going into windowed mode. How to solve this mess?

Just to make sure but if your running vista or win7 have you made sure your not having permission issues with the ini? Is it saving the fullscreen=0 value or was it already set like that?
Already checked the windows 7 permissions and the Fullscreen=0 was already set to that in the ini files, no way to solve it?
Hmm not sure if its possible if the game ignores its own ini file. The only thing i could think of if you can be bothered and have a decent machine to run it is to run it in a virtual machine. The lack of hardware accelerated graphics wouldn't be a problem for this game so it should work but it could be a bit of a hassle.
:( too messy for my syle.

Soshidow: :( too messy for my syle.
think i got it
i have a 24 screen and so it really looked bad for me either
i applied the highres patch from the board here and after that i did a shortcut to the oc(in my case3).exe with a "game" (without the quotes) after the file path(within the shortcut properties)
then i edited the outcast.ini
for example:
VideoWidth=1600
VideoHeight=1200
ScreenWidth=1024
ScreenHeight=768
so it was the other way round than i guessed - thought the video values had to be lower than the screen values but as i said its the other way round

i guess only values suppoted by the game(so with the res patch up to 1280x1024) are accepted for the ScreenWidth value
plus i think the 2 values have to be of the same aspect ratio
here it is 4:3(1600:1200 = 4:3 / 1024:768 = 4:3) but havent tried
so the screen value is the resolution you have set in the settings or via the high res patch
the other (video) value is the size of your entire frame
so it looks like a window of 1024:768 on a black background with 1600x1200

with the values above i had black frames round the actual picture you can adjust the size if you chose 800 600 with the patch you can the put 800 600 and 1600 1200 as values and would have a smaller video image size than with 1024 768
and so on ...

just tweak it the way you want

by using the shortcut (as mentioned in the beginning) you will not have to open the outcast.ini while start or set it to read only(which doesnt work anyway ;) to prevent the loader.exe from undoing your changes

one setting and you will simply click on the shortcut - game starts and you load your savegame from inside the game

and with tweaked settings and max res it looks really, really nice

its so simple but it took me some time to find this out and to do it the right way

hope this helps
