Thank you GOG.com for adding Outcast to your catalogue.
Widescreen support? 1366x768 OK? :)
This question / problem has been solved by Nodensimage
If you can reprogram the game and the used engine, sure!
If you can go back in time to 2001 and obtain source code from Appeal, sure!
So... will it not run 'wide' at all? It can't fill a 16:9 screen?
A shame if so, I'll probably give this a miss until I get a larger screen (just coping with a 15.6" laptop at the moment, 4:3 games are just too small).
There is a widescreen option (cinemascope), but as it's just the 4/3 cropped it's even smaller.
(It is certainly there for performance issues).
Aha! That might be enough for me, cheers Nodens. So Cinemascope mode will fill a 16:9 or 16:10 screen, no black borders? :)
16/9 but as I said it's the 4/3 cropped, you still have the 4/3 resolution but with black borders…
So you wont get fullscreen and there is another problem, the game resolution is 512*384, and the LCD monitors don't like that so even with the 4/3 ration you have black borders… so imagine with 16/9 mode wich add black borders to 4/3…
The resolution in this game is a real problem for the LCD screens, but as Paul said, without the source code not much can be done.
Thanks a lot for your help Nodens. In that case, I'll wait for a sale price before faffing around with it for ages. :)
Actually you can change the resolution - I'll try to dig up that information. We did this years ago, it's in a config file.

Still waiting for that info.

It's unlikely it'll go over 640x480 anyway.
I see no problem if it fills up that resolution. Because the game is displayed like that on my laptop, 512 boxed in 640.
For those wondering about the resolution, I've just been looking around, and found an ini that let's you change it. There's a loader.ini in the games install folder, which has an option for resolution (resolution=400x300 initially, with cinemascope on). I've tried 800x600 so far, and it made a quite noticeable difference.

I tried changing the resolution in both loader.ini and OUTCAST.ini, but both settings were reverted to the ones set in the loader's graphics-menu (currently 512x384). So, no luck there. Perhaps when you changed the ini-file to 800x600, the game was changed to the biggest possible resolution, which in this case is 512x384? That would explain why I'm not seeing any changes.

Looks like you're right. I didn't see the resolution setting initially, but it set itself to 512x384 just like you said. Explains why I couldn't get any better results after playing around with it.
