Bumping thread. Got the same problem. Win7 x64, Radeon HD3200.

Editing INIs or applying the high res patch didn't help.
I have the flickering problem also (hi-rez patch applied) and an ATI 5970. I had the same problem in Witcher 2 and it was solved by running in a window. I can't figure out how to get Outcast to run in a window. Anyone playing in windowed mode?

In loader.ini there is "Fullscreen=0". I changed it to 1 but it didn't work.
i had that a few times. i just hit alt-tab twice and it was gone.
it usualy appears because of windows background messages

Turning of crossfire worked to counter flickering.
On my machine, turning off crossfire only reduced the black flickering, and disabling AI didn't do anything.. So the flickering is still a problem for me. Alt tabbing didn't work for me, either, and I can't get the game to run in a window.

This isn't just an ati problem. I have flickering with a 470, and it's keeping me from playing the game. Somebody needs to find a permanent workaround for this problem. The renderer probably needs hacked.
At first it did'nt run at all..

After aplying the "OUTCAST_V3_PARCHE-HD_Y_FARO_GOG_ByZenger" Patch

AND disabling my 2nd Monitor it finally starts...

But the Screen flickering still leaves it unplayable for me...

Disappointing Experience, so be warned...
Have the same Problem as well. Black Flickering.

I run it on Win7 (64) with a ATI HD4870 X2.

I purchased the Game in May. And since than i looking for an solution that finally works. Tried it with some different Patches and ini setups, but nothing works...
Vista user here. It's too early to cry success, but I'm getting good results with my nVidia chipset by using "nVidia Inspector" and limiting the frame rate. 40-50fps seems to be just right for my computer with a single flicker every five minutes. At 30fps I have experienced no disruptive screen flickering at all during a 30 minute test, though I prefer not to got that low because it feels a bit sluggish to play that way in 2013.

Possibly unrelated, but I have set compatibility mode of all three game executables (oc1, oc2 and oc3.exe) to windows 98 and disabled "visual themes" and "desktop composition".

ATi users should be able to find a program that allows you to access hidden frame rate limiter settings on your chipset. Give it a try and report back!
Ok, I think I got it.

Just execute the task manager and stop all processes like spotify, dropbox, Plex...

It worked for me and the Black Flickering not appears again.
