Hi All. I just learned about outcast and was intrigued enough to purchase it. I don't remember it from way back when, though the Box art is kinda familiar. Anywho I got it installed and patched to run 720p (Thanks Zenger!) and just got a bit past the intro movie. I can already tell I'm gonna like it. It's got my kinda psuedoscience and my kinda hero. I've got a few questions about configuring it for maximum enjoyment though.

First off, 720p is nice, but is it possible to go any higher? Zenger's patcch does support a few higher resolutions but none of them are also 16:9. 1080p would be marvelous, but I'd be happy with anything inbetween if possible. Probably a longshot but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Are there any other mods that improve the graphics? Specifically what I'm after are higher res textures. If not, oh well.

The one thing I really want though is some advice on the controls. I've only played a few minutes, but I immedietly had to switch the arrow keys over to WASD. Still there are oddities like needing to use the arrow keys in the menus, but only being able to activate menu items with the mouse. It almost feels like it'd be better suited to an x360 gamepad. Does anyone play with a gamepad or have a more modern setup for the controls?

If not I'll adjust and adapt. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure, but I think that the 16:9 resolutions in the game might affect the vertical viewing area, meaning the bottom of the screen can be cut off. You will see this if you make Cutter crawl. It might be a better idea to run in 4:3 letterboxed. But I have not tried the high-res patch yet myself, so you should verify this.

I played with WASD and I'm pretty sure I was able to set the game to use WASD in menus and conversations as well. Check the controls and see if there's a separate binding for selecting choices in menus... if so, you can also bind those to WASD. I don't know about using a gamepad, but you could probably map key commands to your gamepad using something like Xpadder. As for getting the mouse control to use the gamepad, that might be harder.

Enjoy the game! It's very good.
Hi rez patch works great! At least so far, I've still not really started playing, just tweaking. Found some .ini tweaks here and that gave the graphics a lil boost as well.

Also I made an xpadder profile which I think should work well based on control section of the manual. 2nd stick mouse look works nice. It's set to inverted in this profile and mouse speed probably needs to be set to taste.
