No idea how long this GOG version has been out, but I'm very glad I found it. Can't wait to play Outcast again.

Now I'm wondering - is it possible to get enough interest focused on this excellent game so that some development company might pick (back) up on creating Outcast II? I know Appeal (or whoever came after) did a lot of work on it and then it died on the vine IIRC.

But dont get your hopes up anytime soon, because this teaser webpage have been up for two years soon (I think), and nothing has happened.. Also the producers webpage looks kind of empty in their "PC games" section (As in nothing, not even mentioning Ancient Gate as far as I can see. http://asem.com.tw/languages.html

Reguarding Ancient Gate, I looked around the developers site, and saw in the forums that on Sep 07, 2010 a team member confirmed the game was still in development.

An understatement judging by the art style and the character design!

In a similar vein to Outcast, I've just started playing The Precursors, which is a Russian-developed game that really reminds me of it (and Morrowind & Mass Effect to boot!)

I just figured I'd post here to say that I have successfully purchased the Russian version of Precursors, and I agree that it's the better one to get, as it does not suffer the crazy audio problems present in the Gamersgate version and the unofficial patch will translate all the game text for you better than the English version. But you definitely should read the post that doglikesparky referenced, because to buy it you will need to use the Russian language site so everything will be displayed in Russian. The post helpfully guides you through this process if you do not speak Russian.

I bought the GamersGate version of Precursors, and patched it with the Russian audio (definitely a boon!) and Wesp5's Unofficial 1.3 Patch.

However, I still had problems, and after 2-3 hours game play it crashed while I was saving and I lost all my efforts.

Apparently Wesp5 is working with the publishers on an official 1.1 patch for the English GG version incorporating his efforts with the executable updates previously only available for the Russian DVD version. I'm waiting for that before I give it another go (definitely is worth it though!)

I was tempted to buy the Yuplay version as it's so cheap, but was put off by the check they put in place and the fact that their HTTPS site wasn't actually HTTPS (as reported by Google Chrome).

Oh, and I'd just like to add that OpenOutcast is the business... they have completely nailed the style, gameplay, characterisation and humour of the original, and it looks fantastic in the Crytek engine they've built it with. 100% worth downloading the mod (500mb) and Crysis Wars (6Gb!) for.

Me too, I had similar issues with yuplay, first Mozilla FireFox says there was an invalid site certificate, and also I couldn't find any PayPal option. I found some forum posts indicating they should have PayPal though, but I didn't find any. I'm also a bit hesitant to leave credit card details here and there, so I let it be for the time being.

I used my credit card with yuplay and didn't have any problems. They did do that weird check thing, so I had to call my credit card company to find out the amount, which was annoying, but I haven't seen any fraudulent activity on my card or anything, and that was about a month ago.

Actually, I'm kind of glad Outcast 2 got scrapped. I read that the game was on the path to becoming a regular arcade action game for the PS2, with the PC version being a mere console port months later. The game wouldn't have lived up to it's predecessor and no doubt would have tarnished the name of Outcast, much like Invisible War did for Deus Ex. Now we have open Outcast on the way, being created by people who aren't in it for the money and understand Outcast, it will be a much better sequel than Outcast 2 would have been.

Hey guys, ya...our modification (or soon "Indie") is at the moment the only playable alternative to Outcast 2. The other one is - as stated before - The Ancient gate but as it has said as well, the Teaser site is up for years now, without any single change...

BTW: We are currently working on Oasis 1.2 which will be a FULL GAME DEMO and not a techdemo like the other two. So expect a new questline around the Oasis and the island, a combat system, AI, Inventory, Save/Load with Gamsaav and lots of other stuff...

Your game looks awesome, you guys definitely have nailed the art-style and gameplay of the original Outcast. Hopefully once Oasis 1.2 comes out there'll be more publicity for you, maybe contact Rock paper Shotgun to do an article about it.
