when I try to start Outcast, it plays the intro, then starts the launcher, but if I click 'new game' I get a popup saying 'OUTCAST DVD missing. Please insert DVD : DATA'
I checked the Outcast.ini, and it does mention the right path to the Data folder (dvd_path=B:\Games\Outcast\Data)
I suppose I could make an iso containing the content of the Data folder, mount it in daemon tools and change the path to the virtual disk, but I'm kind of confused as to why it doesn't work in the first place.
EDIT1: the iso thing works. So for those suffering from a similar problem, this is a viable temporary fix.
EDIT2: another option for those running Vista/Win7 is to make a symbolic link to the data folder on another partition and point the ini there

Tried downloading the setup again and reinstalled, just in case. Didn't help.

There was another game doing that on machines without a drive. Installing a virtual one solved the problem for that game, i was thinking if it was something similar.
Feel like trying to reinstall to default location to see if it makes a difference ? That's where i installed it and i had no problems starting the game.

Ah, yes. That was the first thing I tried, since it seems to fix things for no sane reason way too often. But no, that didn't work. I'll send a ticket to support then. Figured that there might be an easy solution, so I posted here first :)
Not really, I'm kind of OCD-ish about the organizations of my drives :p I'm going to try the iso thing first, if that doesn't work I'll think about it. But thanks for the suggestion.
EDIT: iso trick works, so the problem seems to be that the game refuses to recognize the Data folder as a disc. Why and why only for me? I do not know.

I'm having the same problem. Only it's asking me to insert the... hard drive. Yeah. Anyway, run as admin doesn't help here.

It's a bit annoying yes, but look at the bright side, you can play it now ;)

EDIT: Well well, that fixes it. Idle observation: the partition I originally installed to is called 'DATA' itself could there be some kind of silly conflict here? The drive label is mentioned in the .ini: [general]

So no. But I've never had a problem with that before. Even with old DOS games it wasn't a problem. I might try that just to see if I can get it running though.

FIXED IT! Navagon, is your drive named 'DATA' too? Because I renamed it to DATA2 and changed the label in the .ini and now it works.
EDIT: OK, after a reinstall it doesn't. Ignore me please :p

The label on the DVD was 'DATA'
if your drive is named 'DATA', the game assumes it's the CD (pre-dvd days), and will look for the files in a specific directory.
