Outcaster666: Hi
Thank you very much for your great patches, but unfortunately Music patch doesn't work for me. The game crashed on a loading screen.

I have WinXP SP3 32 bit, Direct X 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) 2010 Redist, ASUS Xonar Essence ST Sound Card.
Thanks for trying the patch.

1) Did you try both patches?, both v2.0a and v3 with uninstallation of the patches in between?

2) Could you be a little bit more specific about which "loading screen" you last saw before the crash? Was the crash before the intro babbling about superstring theory and such or did the crash occur after you clicked on "Play" on the small, disklike control panel?

3) Did you find any notices in the Application event log on this crash?
You can find it if you go to "Configuration Panel" : Administration : Event Log : Application log.

Remember, the mores specific the information that Zenger receives on the crash, the more likely it that he/ she will be able to fix it.
1) Yes i tried both
2) I start the game from savegame, it works widescreen on my pc then when the loading is finised the screen flicks and i see the loading screen in 4:3 mode, then it just doesn't go to game and crash.
3) Event log doesn't work at all :)

Hi Zenger!

Thanks for this update! Only the link for the 2a works, the links for version 3 don't.

In any event, I have tried 2a and I got 4 channel sound! Unfortunately, it seems music and sound effects have just been placed at maximum and the slider between music and sound effects has no effect on the music/sounds produced.

Would love to know what version 3 does different, and then make the links available so I can try it.

I have to say version 2a makes the music/sound effects come out on the 4 channels now, so it's infinity better than version 1, but based on your genius, I would love to try version 3!!!

HUGE thanks for all your hard work!!!
Hi UK_John, I'm _Zenger_ again, thank You very much for Your kind words

I've removed the links for the V3 version because It was just a test to see why It's not working for some people but it doesn't do anything new

About what You say about music/sounds balance, Have you moved the the slider to the end, until you can move it more?. I say this because if You are using the HI-RES patch, the bar of the balance and the slider appear a little strange because the bar is not resized to the new resolution so You have to move the slider a lot out of the bar to start to notice the changes, because I think the game calculates the increment or decrement of the balance in real time, using the width of the screen and so the slider must go very far from the bar.

I'm saying this because this patch is very precise, It goes directly to fix the music problem and it doesn't change the behaviour of the game in any way. It only touches the music and only to fix the problem, this patch even doesn't change any properties of the music, so the game should behave as it does originally

Kind regards
I was looking for someone who could try some different small tests to try to find why is all this, because It's working for me and it's very hard to guess why it's not working for some people without feedback

If it doesn't work for you (download the patch V2a from the first page) and You have a little time to test some patches/tests please tell me, It'd help a lot, because right now I'm not working on this anymore and It's a pity, I'd like to make this work for everybody

Kind regards
THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO THE PATCH DOESN'T WORK AT ALL AND MAKE THE GAME CRASH

I was looking for someone who could try some different small tests to try to find why the patch makes the game crash for some people, because It's working for me and it's very hard to guess why it's not working for some people without feedback

If it doesn't work for you and You have a little time to test some patches/tests please tell me, It'd help a lot, because right now I'm not working on this anymore and It's a pity, I'd like to make this work for everybody.

For example:

PATCH: V2a: --- OR --- [url=http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U4UCABZT]HERE

If the patch crashes the game, could You please try this:

VERY IMPORTANT, YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE PREVIOUS VERSION BEFORE APPLYING THE NEXT ONE, THIS IS DONE RUNNING THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE PATCH AND CLICKING ON "REMOVE PATCH" ON THE GAME DIRECTORY

I'd like to know if You apply this TEST1 PATCH (please, always remember to remove the previous patch before applying the next, this is very important)
Does the game still crashes?, It's not important if the music isn't working, what is important now is if the game crashes

TESTPATCH1: --- [url=http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5C6GA9T9]HERE

Kind regards

Unfortunately TODAY none of the patches work for me :(
What I want to say is, that a few days ago it worked perfectly in combination with musicpatchv3. But when I started the game today It's crashing every time during the loading screen. Short flickering and then you can see a smaller hanging loading screen in the actual resolution with a hidden error message.
'til now I tried your musicpatchv3, musicpatchv2a and testpatch1(with clear uninstall)

Win XP SP3 32Bit
directx 9.0c
Creative Audigy 2ZS with max. acceleration in dxdiag

The problem that makes me wonder is why it worked a few days ago and now crashes everytime I start...don't know...maybe the 3 last windows updates on Tuesday??
Reporting Sir! :)

I tried Test.exe and it did not crash my game, but as you say it did not fix the music.
Hello. Thank you very much, _Zenger_ for your patch!

I have a further question which is not directly associated with your patch but I don't want to start a new topic:

As I have the original CD version with the soundtrack as .WAV files, is there a way to let the game use these higher quality files (copied to HDD, of course) instead of this odd file format .WV2 which I could not even find any info about on the internet.

I've browsed through the various .ini files but couldn't find an entry that tells the game which sound files it should play.

Does anybody know how the GOG version of Outcast can play the original .WAV files instead of this .WV2 stuff?

Both links no longer work.
Is there any chance of the patch releasing new versions which support even higher widescreen resolutions like 1920x1080, or no?
_Zenger_, could you please re-upload the patches?
I found all the links broken.
I just solved my sound problem, changing the sound settings in windows (lowering the Hardware Acceleration)
Both links to patch 2.a and testpatch are down Zenger, I haven't had any sound problems but I'd like them just in case.
