Jagged edges appear on occasion. What gives? Is this a feature of old programming? I've got Windows 7, 8 GB of RAM, and GeForce GTX 1660 Super.

Hello Kuokkanen!

First, those "jagged edges" are absolutely normal in this game.

They are a result of the voxel-based graphics engine for the terrain (similar to the novalogic engine in the old Commanche series or Delta Force 1 & 2). Instead of triangle geometry with pixel textures the world in Outcast (original and version 1.1) is built of small single-colored individual cubes called "voxels".
From a certain angle onto the corner of those little "voxels" (cubes) the engine is not able to distinguish whether it should display the outer sides of the cube or the "back face" from 'within' a cube, hence you can see those "jagged edges".

It is especially visible in the desert town with its many extruded walls and building relings (see attached picture or the other two examples).

The fact that the original "Outcast" uses this kind of graphics engine made it appeal to many because of its otherworldy and strange appearance.
I personally even prefer the original "lower resolution" voxels (simply put bigger cubes), because it creates a rough and very uneven terrain. The "higher resolution" voxels (much smaller individual cube size) from the version 1.1 upgrade seem to flatten out a little the roughness of the terrain.

Kind regards,
foxgog

Sometimes low resolutions seem better for low polygons and low textures.
I wonder if I should play v1.1 or the original..
Is the remaster less buggy now tho?
