I love this game, but I often wish I could force first person mode to be used all the time or whenever you're using a distance weapon. I know there's a similar ini option in Gothic II, is there one in Outcast, or a tool that would help with this?

No not as far I know.
You can press the right control key to use first person but it always switches back to third person after dialoges afaik.
