In the Old CD Version of outcast there was a known bug in the Graphic Settings, if you uses High Setting you used not to have the high settings, but the Low Settings instead :/

Is that problem Solved in the GoG Version now ? - Yup, Its settled because GOG version only use the Low Settings (which means high settings)

Also is there and HD Patch for 1080P ? :)

I have also an Loudness Bug, i can´t setup the sound volume, it always jumps back to 100 %

and an Black Screen Flickering bug.

And a Big problem i have is with the Render Distance in the Voxel engine, it seems that in the HD patch, the Viewing angle /render angle seems to be buggy, and does not really render effectiv as normal.
Good seen on the stone Surfaces.

thx. and lovely regards to our community :)

Yeah, I too have the black flickering problem. Really wish I could play this game but that problem is preventing me from doing so.
It seems it had nothing to do with programs in background even with the Symbols on the Taskbar.
i Also tested "Microsoft Compatibility Administrator" for make better conditions for Outcast, (but i not tested the emulate Slow CPU function) if i had better results, i Answer back ;)
Slow CPU Mode doesn´t Help either.
I got the Solution for the Blackscreen !
I think the Window Management is the Problem ! (tested not all sets single ^^) or DirectDraw.

First go to Microsoft homepage and Download "Compatibility Administator 32/64 bit"

Then open the 32-bit Version (because outcast ist 32 bit.)

then point over to Fix and Click it.

Type Vendor name, and Application name + Choose the program in the Outcast Directory (oc1 as sample, you can add oc 2, 3 later within this section)

Make your Checks on the Settings, same as seen on the Picture.
then if you are in the Last section looking for Matching files, click on the Left side, add files, (Loader.exe, oc2 and oc3.exe)

click ok, go to File and then you Save the settings first ! , and Click install !! (be sure you made install, because if you don´t do it it will have no effect xD)

(Test run, is simpy dumb idea, because if you start oc1 without load parameter it will only start credits xD)

Enjoy your Game !!

*edited Settings because the Old Settings leads into random Crashes, now it be Fixed and working fine !
Don´t use ALT+Tab before you not had Saved the Game. OH AND Turn off THE API Tracing! because this is not Recommended , it was only for Testing, be sure to turn it off, because Windows will Perform every time you start it a Log and it will Grow. so if you start wondering why always if you play your free Disk space will be Shrink, thats why :D

***** Warning : Api Tracing is not Recommended ! i used it only for Debug. It takes a huge amount of gigs on your harddrive. so better let it out ;)

Nice find! As long as I've been using Windows, I didn't know about this tool. I don't need it for Outcast though, but it could come in handy at some time.

However, "Microsoft homepage" is a bit vague, and not always easy to navigate these huge websites, even with searching.. I found this though: Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6.

Is that the "Compatibility Administrator" tool you mention? (I haven't downloaded it or tested, just thought I'd ask). If not, link?
Yup, right, but don´t get insane because, it brings 3 Different tools : Application Compatibility Manager and Compatibility Administrator 32 / 64 bit simultaneously.

You only need Compatibility Administrator 32 or 64 if you want to use Compatibility Managing with 64 bit Programs.
So 32 Bit is for 32 Bit Programs.

best regards :)
